The European Parliament has approved a law called the ‘EU Artificial Intelligence Act,’ which regulates the use of artificial intelligence technologies. This new law brings significant changes for AI developers. Productive AI models will undergo detailed scrutiny before being launched. This aims to protect privacy and personal rights by banning the use of social scoring systems and preventing the use of smart cameras that include facial recognition technology in public spaces.

This Law Will Strengthen Control Over the Use of Artificial Intelligence

The regulation allows the use of artificial intelligence considered low-risk, such as in areas like spam filters or computer games, while limiting the use of bots in sectors like banking or airline companies based on transparency. High-risk applications, such as autonomous vehicles or robotic surgery, will be subject to much stricter controls.

The provisions of the law will be fully applicable by 2026. Although the European Union took its first steps in regulating artificial intelligence technologies in 2020, this law will further strengthen control over the use of AI. The law will target major AI technology producers and will also affect models like ChatGPT and Gemini. Additionally, measures such as the ban on monitoring with biometric data will come into effect within six months, while the prevention of deepfake usage and regulations on the communication quality of chatbots will also be implemented based on transparency.

These legal regulations are considered an important step in protecting users’ rights and managing technology transparently against the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence.
