Samsung, while known in the technology world for its smartphones and wearable devices, also holds a significant place in the field of memory and storage chips. The South Korea-based company now demonstrates its ongoing innovation in storage technologies by introducing a 60 TB SSD. It also stated that future SSDs with capacities up to 120 TB could be produced thanks to newly developed control systems.
New 120 TB SSD Model Coming Soon
Samsung’s previously highest capacity SSDs could reach up to 32 TB. However, now with the 61.44 TB capacity PM1743 model, it has reached a level to compete with other companies like Solidgm and Western Digital, which generally serve corporate customers.
Samsung’s PM1743 model uses 176-layer 7th generation V-NAND QLC memory and an advanced controller. This SSD achieves 7.2 GB/second read and 2.0 GB/second write speeds. It also has a capacity of 1.6 million random reads and 110 thousand random IOPS. The product has proven to withstand daily 0.26 write operations for 5 years even under heavy use.
The new SSD is available in U.2 and PCIe 4.0 x4 formats for server use. It also features a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface for higher density machines. No information on the price or power consumption of the SSD has been provided yet.
