Shimizu Corporation came into the limelight in 2004 with its announcement of a massive pyramid-shaped structure to be built over Tokyo Bay. The structure will be approximately 2000 meters high and will cover an area of 8 km². According to the plans, this structure is designed to be a metropolis that will contain both residential areas and various social and cultural facilities. The foundation of the pyramid is planned to be laid in 2030, with completion projected for 2110. It is envisioned to become the new face of Tokyo with an estimated cost of about $600 billion.
The Pyramid Will Accommodate Approximately 1,000,000 People
The project aims to reduce the current population density of Tokyo and enhance the quality of life in the city, while also aiming to create a more sustainable living space by minimizing environmental impacts. The pyramid is planned to host approximately 1,000,000 people with homes, offices, shopping centers, educational and health facilities, as well as entertainment and relaxation areas.
The Pyramid Will Include Very Fast Elevators
Innovative transportation systems inside the pyramid, including fast elevators and horizontal transportation solutions, are expected to offer modern solutions to traffic issues. Once completed, the Shimizu Mega-City Pyramid could become the largest and tallest structure ever built in the world. This mega-project will not only breathe new life into Tokyo but also seems poised to revolutionize urban planning practices around the world.
