Neuralink, founded by Elon Musk, has made another important step forward in brain chip technology. The company aims to implant chips in the brains of paralyzed patients, enabling them to control digital devices with the power of thought. In the first experiments, 29-year-old Noland Arbaugh was implanted with the chip and the experiment was successful. Arbaugh was able to perform activities such as posting on social media and playing video games just by thinking about them.
FDA Gives Neuralink Green Light
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given Neuralink the green light to continue its trials. This approval came after the company fixed some technical issues, such as position changes in the chip’s threads. To solve these problems, the company plans to embed the chips deeper.
Neuralink aims to implant a total of 10 people by the end of the year. The second trial is due to start in June and more than 1,000 paralyzed patients have so far applied to take part in the experiments.
