Interesting developments in the technology world continue at full speed. Nintendo’s cute alarm clock Alarmo has joined the ranks of devices that can play Doom, thanks to hacker GaryOberNicht. Gary managed to run Doom on Alarmo by exploiting a vulnerability found in the USB port. Previously known for similar projects, Gary this time managed to run his own software on Alarmo and shared the video of playing Doom on his social media accounts.
Doom’s Adventure on Alarmo
The hacker managed to control the game using Alarmo’s existing buttons to achieve this success. He also explained in detail how the process worked in a blog post. Gary first imitated methods used by another hacker named Spinda to hack Alarmo. Then, by running the alarm clock in USB mode, he managed to integrate his own software. It became possible to run the game entirely via USB without modifying Alarmo.
Open Source Software and New Game Possibilities
Gary sharing his software and guidance on Github allows anyone with sufficient technical knowledge to play Doom on Alarmo. This situation raises the question of whether Nintendo will enable other games to be played on Alarmo. However, it is stated that Nintendo will decide how far these efforts can go.
